Blackstone Architecture is based in Colorado, with projects throughout the Denver metro area, Boulder County, the Front Range, and Colorado’s mountain communities. Our experience also includes residential work in California.

Working in different regions has taught us that architecture needs to start with the place. Climate, topography, neighborhood context, local requirements, and the way people live can change considerably from one location to another. We bring that experience to each project rather than assuming the same design approach works everywhere.

Experience Across Different Regions

Designing in different climates and communities has broadened the way we approach architecture. A Denver infill property presents different questions than a mountain home in Summit County or a coastal residence in California. Understanding those differences helps us ask better questions at the beginning of a project and develop a design around the conditions that are actually there.

Design Starts With Place

Every location brings a different set of opportunities and constraints. In established neighborhoods, we may be working with existing homes, smaller lots, neighboring properties, and zoning limitations. Mountain projects can bring steep sites, snow, views, solar orientation, access, and more demanding weather conditions. Coastal projects introduce another set of considerations involving climate, materials, exposure, and the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces.

We don’t see those conditions as separate from the architecture. They’re part of what shapes it. Our job is to understand the site, listen to what the client wants to accomplish, and bring those pieces together into a design that makes sense for that particular property.

Working in different parts of Colorado and in California has exposed us to very different sites, climates, building requirements, and ways of living. A Denver infill property, a home in Colorado’s mountains, and a coastal California residence each present their own questions. That experience has taught us to begin by understanding the property rather than arriving with a predetermined solution.

Blackstone Architecture is based in Arvada, Colorado, but our work and experience has taken us throughout the Denver metro area, Boulder County, the Front Range, and Colorado’s mountain communities, as well as throughout California and other states. Working across these different settings gives us ideas and lessons we can carry from one project to another while still designing specifically for the place in front of us, but with a vision throug a wider design lens.
